Job duties:
-Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
-Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
-Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
-Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
-Knowledge of Daycare Services Act
-Knowledge of licensing regulations
-Establish guidelines for behaviour
-Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
-Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
-Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
-Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers
-Order supplies and equipment
-Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties
-Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children

Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
First Aid Certificate; Minimum Level 2 ECE Certification from Nova Scotia

Requirements:
-Education: A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in early childhood education is required.
-Experience: Minimum 3 – 5 years in the Child Care field
– Minimum Level 2 ECE Certification from Nova Scotia is required
-Satisfactory criminal record check is required
-Able to work independently.
-Well developed interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication.
-Valid First Aid certificate
– Vulnerable Sector Check
– Child Abuse Registry Check

Early Childhood Educator Specific Skills

Salary:
$ 19.00-20.00 hourly, 40 Hours per week. Employee must be able to work between 6:30 am-5:30 pm between Monday – Friday with paid lunch break. (Flexible Schedule)
