Linwell has grown excellence in the greenhouse by combining old fashioned attention to detail with the latest growing techniques and state of the art equipment.

The operation specializes in the propagation of rooted annuals, chrysanthemum, and poinsettia liners to the wholesale greenhouse market. The company has partnered with some of the largest garden retailers in Canada to bring to market a comprehensive annuals and planter program including magnificent poinsettias for Christmas.

The Linwell team works hard to understand the customers’ needs and to help them showcase the latest varieties with the best garden performance and at this time, Linwell Gardens Ltd. is seeking to hire an experienced Assistant Flower Grower to continue achieving their high standard. The ideal candidate will have a passion for growing, an education in a related field and a minimum of 5 years progressive experience growing flowers.

MAIN JOB DUTIES

Landscape and Horticulture Technicians and Specialists Specific Skills:

Mixing and applying fertilizer as needed (at times outside standard hours), Watering, fertilizing, spraying, monitoring, mixing fertilizer and chemicals, and dispensing with exact measurement techniques, Taking and analyzing soil samples (EC and pH),

Harvesting seedlings, Greenhouse cleaning, Deleafing, Weeding, Suckering

Specific Skills:

Establish work schedules, Following weekly routines and assignments while prioritizing situations as they occur, Management of crop growing operations, including the principles and practices of plant propagation, cultivation and protection, Conducting R&D on current and potential crops and strategies, Monitoring, assessing, recording and acting according to the needs of the crop

Determine type and quantity of stock to grow, Identify and control insect, disease and weed problems, Hire, train and supervise staff, Establish and maintain required environment, Order materials and stock, Supervise staff in planting, transplanting, feeding and spraying, Organize and direct greenhouse and nursery operations, Apply fertilizers, Resolve work related problems

OTHER INFORMATION

Work Experience Required: 5 years of progressive experience as grower of annuals

Minimum Education Required: College Diploma in a related field

Additional Credentials: Chemical application certification or license

Wages from: $23.00

Hours per day: 8

Hours per week: 40

Workplace language: English, Spanish is an asset
