Description

We are looking for someone vibrant and knowledgeable in modern stones and jewelry designs that are catered to the newly age groups. The stone setter needs to assemble, advise, and consult the client on boutique jewelry needs. This includes but not limited to, rings, pendants, bangles, bracelets, cultural wedding jewelry, day wear and evening banquet wear, traditional stones: diamonds, Canadian diamonds, forevermark diamonds, precious stones, jade, agate, jade setting. Design experience is an asset. The individual needs to promote products, custom designs of various luxury jewelry of stones on various products such as rings and bracelets.

DUTIES:

  • Examine diamonds, gems, stones to ascertain the shape, cut, and width of cut stones
  • Estimate retail value of diamonds, stones, gems, following pricing guides, market fluctuations, and other relevant economic factors -local and other markets
  • Advise customers and others on design and usage of gems to create attractive jewelry items
  • Ensure accuracy of angles and positions of cuts or bores, using magnifying glasses, loupes, or shadowgraphs
  • Locate and mark drilling or cutting positions on stones or dies, using diamond chips and power hand tools and to notify the craftsmanship what the client’s needs are
  • Polish facets of stones, using felt-covered or canvas-covered polishing wheels and polishing compounds
  • Lap girdles on rough diamonds, using diamond girdling lathes •
  • Select shaping wheels for tasks, and mix and apply abrasives, bort, or polishing compounds
  • High attention to detail and awareness to quality to produce the awe-inspiring pieces
  • Must also be understandable on the budgeting scale of things for the client from workmanship to materials (gold, platinum, silver)

Qualifications: design knowledge, and work in the field for over 5 years in any capacity, minimum 1 years as stone setter.

Gemologist certificate an asset but not necessary.

Term of Position: FULL-TIME, permanent

Location: Richmond

Wage: $20/ hour
