2 candidates needed for a Level 2 or 3 Early Childhood Educator Role

Fultime, Permanent, 35 hours a week (English)

Education

Minimum: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years in child care and/or education and upto a bachelors degree

Experience

7 months to less than 1 year

Ability to Supervise

1 to 2 people; volunteers or assistants 

Security and Safety

Criminal record check, Vulnerable sector check and all checks needed for working with children

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

Attention to detail, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Bending, crouching, kneeling

Additional Skills

Supervise staff, trainees or volunteers, Storytelling, Order supplies and equipment, Assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping records, Maintain daycare equipment and assist in housekeeping and cooking duties, Supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants, Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children, Plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours

Early Childhood Educators Specific Duties

Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs and taking children to local points of interest, provide opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity, Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits, Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor, Establish guidelines for behaviour, Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children, Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members

Perform Some of These Early Childhood Educator Assistant Duties

Bathe, diaper and feed infants and toddlers, Support early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children, Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts, Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods, Submit written observations on children to early childhood educators or supervisors, Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings

Work Setting

Day care centre or nursery school

Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)

Emergency child care first aid and CPR, Child development worker (ECE level 2), Child development supervisor (ECE level 3), Child development assistant (ECE level 1) and all other licencing and credentials needed to work with children as an early childhood educator
